Story
With 2012 being Olympic year, what better way to raise money for the fire fighters charity than to dress up in a mascot outfit and race against other charity mascot’s at Great Yarmouth’s horse racing stadium?
Great Yarmouth Red Watch and the whole station are gearing up for the big race, with Alan Churchman, one of the Firefighters in training as we speak, for the grand honour of running as Blaze!
We spoke to Alan about why he decided to do the race:
"This year I am running in the mascot race at Great Yarmouth racecourse family fun day, and hoping to raise lots of money for the fire fighters charity. I am a serving fire fighter at Great Yarmouth fire station on Red watch and I appreciate just how important the fire fighters charity is to fire fighters who are injured on duty every year through the course of their duties helping other people.
Blaze bear is the mascot of the fire service, and is usually used to help get across to children safety from fire messages. However, this year blaze will be leaving the other mascots in the smoke as he blazes across the finish line for the fire fighters charity! The family fun day at Yarmouth racecourse is a great day out for all the family and there will be lots for all the family and children to do.
This year the family fun day will be held on August 26th, with gates opening at 11:30 hrs, and the Mascot race at around 1515 hrs. If you can spare a pound, please click the donate button to sponsor me, and help our fire fighters when they are in need."
