Story
A loving son, a generous uncle, a loyal friend, courageous, creative, charitable, hardworking, hilarious, successful, and - in the words of Dragons’ Den’s Touker Suleyman - a genius, my brother Drew Peter George Cockton was one of a kind.
On Saturday 22nd October 2022, we lost Drew suddenly aged just 36.
In his memory and honourable legacy, I am running the 2023 London Marathon in aid of Mind, the mental health charity that meant so much to Drew.
Drew was not only a great supporter of Mind, organising numerous fundraising functions to raise thousands of pounds for contribution, he was also a huge mental health awareness advocate.
In 2018 Drew bravely told the story of his journey with bipolar disorder in an interview with the mental health positivity app Happiful, and just days before his passing, posted online encouraging others to feel comfortable about opening up about themselves without fear of any judgement.
Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
Although not much of a runner meaning this challenge will be huge, I have determination! With your support, I hope to raise as much money as possible to help Mind support those in need.
No matter how big or small, please donate whatever you can. Each contribution to this cause will spur me on through the next 20 weeks training.
Keep a lookout here for updates!
