Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year is my big 5-0 and in lieu of any gifts or dinners, etc., I’ve decided to raise money for a charity that means a lot to me. The Michael Perham Sanctuary Scholarship is given to refugees and those seeking asylum in the UK who wish to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level at the University of Gloucestershire. The scholarship is given in memory of the late Bishop of Gloucester who was also Pro Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire for several years.
The first Scholarship was offered in September 2018, with further Scholarships being made available to a new student each academic year. The Scholarship includes a full tuition fee waiver funded by the University.
As part of the Scholarship the University of Gloucestershire STAR Society (Student Action for Refugees), together with the Student Union and the Chaplaincy Team, endeavour to provide each student with an additional bursary to support them during their time at the University. The bursary would help towards living, travel and other educational costs. It is my intention to request that all monies raised for my birthday go towards this bursary: indeed, there’s not much one can do with a full tuition without a place to live or food to eat.
Refugee students have often been displaced from their homeland due to war, or other extreme circumstances. We consider they should have the same access to higher education as other students, and that offering a Scholarship with a bursary communicates that they are welcome. Please donate if you can.
