Story
Hello All and thanks for visiting my page,
My name is Claude aka Claude the comeback kid, named so as
everyone (including me!) is surprised I’ve done so well since I first arrived.
I was found exhausted in the road and unable to carry on, until a kind stranger
picked me up and brought me to Cats Protection Birmingham Adoption Centre.
I wasn’t looking my best with abscesses in my mouth, constantly drooling,
my coat in a bad state and being very underweight. The staff also had concerns
re my thyroid and kidneys as I was eating and drinking so much. Lots of tests
later and other than being FIV I got the all clear! I’ve had my teeth taken out
as they were in such a state and have been on medication since to help my mouth
clear up. Just over a month later with lots of TLC, medication, food and
grooming I’m looking sleek and glossy and the old fur coat is feeling a bit
tighter round the waistband! I still drool a little but A. I’m 17 years old and
B. The food here is really good!!
I had hoped to take part in the Halloween Fire walk that is
taking place to raise funds for the centre, being a black cat I thought this
was perfect however it seems health and safety think my fur could be highly
flammable so sadly no hot coals for me. I still wanted to try and give
something back to the centre though as my vet bills alone have come to over £500 and I’m only one of 120 in our care at the moment (the centre re
home approx. 1000 cats a year!!). Every cat that leaves here is health checked
by a vet, flea and wormed, microchipped, has had at least their first
vaccination, along with all the food, toys for stimulation, litter, bedding
etc… that is needed to look after us. Also there is the love, care and passion
of the staff and volunteers which is priceless, excuse an old boy for being
soppy but I know I’m one of the lucky ones and want to raise funds to help
other cats who need help like me.
