Story
Here we go again! It’s Run number 31!
After vowing to call it a day again last year, I’ll be lacing up the running shoes again on Saturday May 7 for Birch’s Annual Charity Run, this time in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust – Leicester City’s 2010/11 Official Chosen Charity.
Over the last 30 years, the Run has supported over 60 different charities and raised over £800,000 for worthy causes, with last year’s Run for Help for Heroes raising nearly £32,500 alone! Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a fantastic total.
This year we will be raising money for an equally-worthy cause in Teenage Cancer Trust, providers of specialist services and facilities for teenage cancer patients from across the East Midlands and beyond.
As Teenage Cancer Trust has been Leicester City’s Chosen Charity this year, I have had the opportunity, in my role as Club Ambassador, to see close-up the fantastic work they do with young people, giving them hope and helping them focus on their interests and the things they are passionate about, at what must be a very difficult time. They understand the need for teenagers and young adults to have access to specialist care and facilities.
This is the first time we have brought the Run together with the Football Club’s Chosen Charity, so I’m hoping we can raise as much money as possible. As well as the usual assortment of supporting runners, I’ll be joined by Jon Rudkin’s Under-18s from the Leicester City Academy, which is a fantastic gesture from lads of around the same age as those we’re running for.
To the best of my knowledge, this is still the country’s only charity run targeting 50 laps in 90 minutes, so please give generously to support a fantastic cause.
If you are coming to the game against Ipswich on May 7, please arrive early to cheer me on, and please give generously to the collectors on the day (in addition to making a donation online of course!)
If you can’t make the game, I hope to see you soon and please sponsor me online for as much as you can afford for such a deserving charity.
I appreciate times are tough for everyone in the current economic climate, but Leicester City fans have always come up trumps for me and any donation is fantastic.
If you do make a donation please leave me your name and email address and I'll let you know how much we have raised when we've got the grand total at the beginning of next season.
Every penny counts!
Thank you for your support.
