Story
Update: 20th February 2023
Another earthquake struck the border region of Turkey and Syria on Monday, just two weeks after the area was devastated by a larger quake which killed more than 47,000 people and damaged or destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes.
The Earthquake is one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent memory. So far the statistics are harrowing and will only continue to rise. More than 7 million people are affected and in need of urgent shelter, food and medication.
In Syria, the number of deaths is lower but the capacity to help is less too. Many Islamic Relief staff members have lost members of their family as well with some staff still missing themselves. IR Syria teams are still working to free people from collapsed buildings themselves with people screaming underneath the rubble. The team has also run out of body bags and are having to prepare mass graves.
ISLAMIC RELIEF IS ON THE GROUND IN TURKIYE AND SYRIA.
