Billy is also hoping to be cycling round East Lothian and Edinburgh Stores, Musselburgh, North Berwick, Haddington, Dalkeith, Penicuik, Colinton, Hermiston Gait, Corstorphine, Leith and back to Musselburgh a total distance of around 75 miles on Sunday 7th November - look out for him in these stores. Billy has been an extremely popular member of the Tesco Musselburgh team as a Customer Delivery since 2014
The reason Billy is doing the bike ride is that as a member of Musselburgh Road Cycling Club, the club he would normally enjoy taking part in an event each year called the Poppy ride, which supports the Poppy appeal, by raising vital donations through the entry fee and other donations on the day. As this event is not happening this year, Billy thought that doing a ride both outdoor and in store would highlight and support the efforts of Tesco Musselburgh at their annual Poppy Appeal raising funds Poppy Scotland Billy joined the Army in April 1988, where he carried out his 14 weeks phase 1 basic training at the Royal Artillery, Woolwich Barracks, London, followed by phase 2 Gunnery training again at Woolwich. Billy was then posted in the sept 1988 to 137 Java Field Battery Royal Artillery of 40th Regiment Royal Artillery in Bergen/ Hohne, west Germany. He was there for 10 years, where he worked in the observation parties, firstly as a driver/ signals before rising through the ranks to finish his career as a Sergeant in the position as the Battery Commanders Assistant. During these 10 years Billy was deployed to the first Gulf war, and peace keeping roles in Northern Ireland and with NATO forces in Bosnia. Billy’s last years were posted to Pirbright as part of the recruit training teams and then leading 40th Regt RA’s recruitment team in Edinburgh.
