Story
I am taking on the Western Front Way Challenge with The Lewis Moody Foundation to help change the lives of the 88,000 people living with a brain tumour in the UK.
Our team will cycle 1000km in 7 days over the length of the first World War trench lines. Starting in Pfetterhouse on the border of Switzerland, we will cycle through France to Nieuwpoort on the coast.
The Lewis Moody Foundation works in partnership with the Brain Tumour Charity, helping to fund Family Days. These run throughout the year and take place all over the country, giving families the chance to escape from the daily routine of hospital visits and medical care. The Brain Tumour Charity is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain tumours. Every day it makes a difference to the lives of people living with a brain tumour as well as their families.
This challenge also has a personal connection for me. Having left the Royal Marines this April after 32 years service, my aspiration on retiring had always been to visit the resting place of my great uncle; 681461 Private Edward Charles Perham. He is remembered with honour at the Thiepval Memorial following his death on 16 September 1916 while serving with 1st/22nd Battalion, London Regiment. My aspiration will be achieved during this challenge.
