Story
A year ago I had a totally unexpected heart attack and cardiac arrest at home. I was saved by (in order) my amazing wife, the amazing SE Ambulance crew and the amazing staff at the William Harvey hospital in Ashford.
A year on I'm a lot better, and much thinner and fitter than I was, and I'd like to give something back to say thank you. Ashford is the 2nd biggest out-of-hospital cardiac arrest centre in the UK and covers 1.8 million people. Their suggestion is that I fund raise towards an EEG machine - an electro-encephalogram - for dedicated use by the unit. This would enable the cardiac team to assess whether unconscious patients in intensive care have suffered brain injury in the time their hearts stopped beating - information that aids decision making by doctors and can be used to inform anxious families about what to expect when their loved ones regain consciousness.
I've set the ambitious target of raising the full amount to buy this fantastic piece of kit to help others and I'll be taking on a number of personal challenges over the next year. Thank you for any support you can give. If we don't quite raise enough, I trust the unit to buy something else suitable instead.
