If you received an email from me reporting that the last six miles are apparently harder than the previous twenty, I can now tell you that this is an absurd understatement. This is principally because the London marathon is actually much longer than 26.2 miles. I know this because after 25 and a half miles you pass a sign that says '800 metres to go'. A mile later there is another sign saying '600 metres to go'. Another 2 or 3 miles later is one saying '400 metres to go' and so on. They have clearly moved Big Ben for the day and stretched the Embankment. I calculate it at about 35 miles in total.
My time was about 4 hours and 12 mins which was more than I'd hoped but given my anxiety/paranoia in the last week about my injured legs this is probably a reasonable result.
You are probably aware of the work of the Samaritans, for which I've been a volunteer for about ten years. We offer confidential and non-judgemental support to people who are going through an emotional crisis and/or considering suicide.
If you can use use a debit card, rather than a credit card, then the Samaritans gets to keep more of your money. And if you tick the gift-aid box the Government will add 28% to your donation.
A couple of people have recently told me this site is temperamental and doesn't always allow sponsorship to go through. If you find this, please persevere, even if it means returning another time. It does work. Thanks
