Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 7th - 9th June Sandy and I will embark on a sponsored cycle which will take us from Aberdeen to Edinburgh.
The route follows part of the National Cycle Route No 1 on the section known as ‘Coast and Castles North’ and covers a distance of around 180 miles. The route crosses both the Tay and Forth bridges and mainly follows the east coast of Scotland.
Whilst undertaking this stern challenge, we thought that some good should become of it and decided to try and raise as much money as possible for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), of which Sandy is the Chairman for the Walk to Cure Diabetes 2011, JDRF is the leading charitable funder of Type 1 diabetes research in the UK and is focused on raising money to fund research.
Type 1 diabetes affects about 350,000 people in the UK, more than 25,000 of them children, it is a chronic, life-threatening and lifelong condition and is caused by a defect in the immune system and not by lifestyle and cannot be currently prevented. Just to stay alive, people with type 1 rely on multiple daily insulin injections (or pump infusions) and finger prick blood tests. But insulin is not the cure and people with the condition could still face future complications. Help us create a future free from type 1 diabetes.
Our cycle challenge is one of a number of fund raising events Sandy has planned this year, all going towards his 2011target of £250,000.00.
Please make a donation to this very worthy cause. Every penny raised will be donated directly to the charity since all costs for travel, accommodation, sustenance and administration over the trip will be funded directly by us. The easiest way to donate is via this site and we hope that you are able to help in any way you can
All being well, we hope to arrive in Edinburgh to join a Spinal Injuries and JDRF event and reception at Holyrood on 9th June.
Thanks very much in anticipation of your support.
