Ed wanted to be a yacht designer all of his life, and he proved to be one of the most successful and imaginative of his generation, creating beautiful boats with classic appeal but using cutting edge technologies where appropriate.  He was also a big believer in young people and mentored and helped many of them, through his rowing club in Totnes and elsewhere.  In 2008 he completed a project with the Island Trust and the Bristol Classic Boat Co. to design and build Pegasus, a 48' yacht inspired by the Bristol Channel pilot cutters, specifically for the purpose of sail training with young people from challenging or disadvantaged backgrounds.

Ed died in tragic circumstances in May this year - he will be a huge loss to his family and his many friends around the world.  We hope that some of them might wish to contribute to the Island Trust in his memory, and so we have set up this page.
