We are the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK

Story

We have been talking about doing a challenge to raise money for the NSPCC for a few years, however this year we have decided to put these dreams into reality and will be cycling from our North Wales Service NSPCC Service Centre based in Prestatyn to our NSPCC Service Centre in Cardiff.

We will be leaving Prestatyn on Friday the 21st of June and arriving in Cardiff on Monday morning the 24th of June.    The route is 225 miles in total and we will be completing over four days.

Day 1:  Prestatyn - Shrewsbury (75 Miles)

Day 2: Shrewsbury - Hay-On-Wye (60 Miles)

Day 3: Hay-On-Wye - Chepstow (50 Miles)

Day 4:  Chepstow - Cardiff (40 Miles)

We work within the NSPCC North Wales Service Centre working to support children and their families who have been abused to re-build their lives.

Last year there were 921 sexual offences against children under the age of 16 recorded by police in North Wales, 590 children were on a child protection register and there were 1,120 children in care in North Wales.

Here is an overview of how the NSPCC is keeping children safe in North Wales:

We offer face to face support at our service centres and last year worked directly with 119 children and families at our service centre in North Wales.

2017/18 our volunteers and staff delivered Speak out, Stay Safe in 147 schools and spoke to 20,41 children in North Wales about their right to be happy and safe.  We want a whole generation of children to know what abuse is, that it's never a child's fault and who to turn to if they ever need to talk.  With your help over the next 3 years we could visit all 396 schools in North Wales.

On average, a child somewhere in the UK contacts Childline every 25 seconds.

The NSPCC helpline responded to 89 calls and emails from North Wales for advise and keeping children safe.  426 referrals were made from the helpline to local agencies such as police and children's services.

Transforming society online and offline - we are working with 02 to keep children safe online with our 02 NSPCC online safety helpline.  Our share aware campaign also guides parents about talking to children about staying safe on social networks.

Our PANTs campaign materials also help parents talk to their children about staying safe from abuse.

With your support, we can continue to develop our service to fight for every childhood as around 90% of income comes from the generous donations from people like you.

Thank you for reading and for your support.
