Story
Lee is setting off from Morecombe and cycling all the way to bridlington in one day on 23rd June to a raise much needed funds and awareness for Childrens Heart Surgery Fund. This route is called the Way of the Roses. Lee is getting support from a close friend, Mike, who will meet Lee at different stops along the way and will help with the maintainence of of Lee's bike as well as moral support and encouragement. Lee is aiming to arrive in Bridlington at 7.30pm, 14 hours after leaving Morecombe. WHAT A CHALLENGE!
Lee is inspired to complete this epic challenge after meeting James and hearing about the challenges he has to face. James has had 3 open heart surgeries and a number of cardiac interventions. He is only 5 years old! James was born with a heart defect called Truncus Arteriousis and as he grows and gets older he will need more open heart surgeries and other cardiac interventions.
He has a number of other medical conditions including epilepsy (including a very form of epilepsy that effects his development), an unsafe swallow and tube fed and a rare genetic condition. James also has a hearing loss andsome trouble with his eyes. He is non verbal and uses makaton to communicate.
Children's heart surgery fund provide vital funding for the cardiac ward at Leeds General infirmary, they fund state of the art equipment, emtional support to families, financial support for files who are on the cardiac ward for a long time......... And lots more!
Please have a look through the photos to see just how amazing James is and to get a little glimpse into his amazing character 😊 I have also added a photo of the route Lee is doing 😲
