Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our beautiful 10 year old son Ethan was diagnosed with Stargardt's Disease over 2 years ago and I will never ever forget the shock, devastation and disbelief at the moment we were told that he was losing his eyesight.

Stargardt's disease is a progressive inherited retinal disease that affects the central vision.  We are already experiencing how this condition is cruelly robbing Ethan of his eyesight. He can no longer play sports he used to love to do such as football and basketball. He can't see the whiteboard at school, read a normal print book or a menu in the restaurant.  He struggles to find his friends in the playground.

There is no cure for Stargardt's disease yet. We are helplessly watching our son go blind and there is nothing we can do to stop it happening.

However it is a very exciting time at the moment as there is a lot of pioneering research being undertaken such as gene therapy, stem cell therapy and drug therapy which could revolutionise treatment for blinding conditions. Moorfields is a world class centre for eye research and there is real hope and optimism for a potential treatment for Stargardt's.

But of course one of the biggest hurdles is money.

Despite the heartbreak of watching our son lose his eyesight, we decided we wanted to do something positive and our aim is to now raise awareness of Stargardt's and to raise money towards support and treatment for Stargardt's Disease.  Moorfields have been brilliant with Ethan and us as a family and we are grateful for the wonderful work they do.

Thank you for the fantastic support and kindness you have shown us already. We really appreciate it. This year I will be doing the 4 mile walk with Ethan and will be joined by my amazing friends.

We appreciate any donations towards Moorfields Eye Charity.  With your support we can get one step closer to developing and funding treatment for this condition. All money raised from our walk will go towards Stargardt's research.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
