Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for brain tumour research in memory of my Mum, who we lost in 1999. (In fact the date of the Marathon, 21st April 2024, is just a few weeks short of the 25th anniversary of Mum's passing.)
Mum was first affected by a large brain tumour in 1985 and we very nearly lost her then. Thanks to the amazing skill of the NHS surgeons (and a 10-hour operation) that tumour was removed and her life was saved. 7 years later and it had returned, but again the surgeons were able to operate successfully. Another 7 years and the tumour was back again and this time, unfortunately, inoperable. I consider myself extremely fortunate that we we were able to enjoy another 14 years with Mum after that first operation before the brain tumour finally got the better of her and she passed away shortly before her 62nd birthday. More research into treatments for brain tumours is much needed, and this is one of the least well funded areas of cancer research.
