Story
As I’m sure lots of you know, I’ve had a love for running for the last 12 years or so. Unfortunately I’ve been plagued by many various injuries so have never been able to hit my personal goal of running a half. This has meant I gave up running in place of my bike. Which I love but it just isn’t quite the same.
I’ve decided to have one last attempt at fulfilling my dream to run a half and what better way to do that than support a local charity that is helping local children to read?
I love reading almost as much as running so I can’t think of a better cause. Plus the charity is Wandsworth based so it really is a local charity for local families & their children.
Enough about me, here is a little more about Learn to Love to Read;
Learn to Love to Read is a small charity focused on child literacy. We want every child to be a reader and we make that happen with our: - early literacy classes for toddlers;- trained volunteers on our one-to-one reading programmes with children at risk of falling behind; and- whole family approach, encouraging families to read with their children at home.How can you help?27% of children left primary school in 2019 unable to read at the expected level. (DfE 2019)A third of businesses in the UK are not satisfied with young peoples literacy when they enter the workforce. (National Literacy Trust 2018)At the age of three there is already a gap in language skills of almost 18 months between children from the best-off and poorest families. (Read on Get on, 2014)1 in 8 of the nations children say they dont have a book of their own at home. (National Literacy Trust, 2017)With your help we can make sure that all children get the chance to learn to love to read.
