Story
I am a community food worker living in Dewsbury, I spend my days working with community groups showing them how to plan, cook and eat well, always simple wholesome recipes with a low food budget in mind. I have chosen to support this Holiday Hunger Campaign to raise money for Foodcycle to feed children and families throughout the summer holiday, we don't have a Foodcycle project in Dewsbury, our nearest is in Sheffield and I would like to go along and meet the group. During the week I expect to experience first hand the difficulties of having little choice in what I can eat. I am well aware that this is how many people have to manage on a daily. weekly and monthly basis. I volunteer at a local community centre where like Foodcycle I am reliant on cooking a meal for 30 people using only donated food. I have worked with community groups supporting families throughout the summer, this year I am working again on sessions to provide activities where parents and children can come along and cook together to make their lunch.
I will keep you updated on how I am doing, I hope that people can support this campaign, I will be living on £2.50 a day, for many of us that is the cost of a coffee when we are out. If you feel that you can support this campaign, £2.50 would help in a big way.
FoodCycle is a national charity, based upon the simple idea that food waste and food poverty should not co-exist and that something powerful can be achieved through eating together. Every week, we open our doors and give a warm welcome to 1200 guests to enjoy a tasty and nutritious three-course meal in their local community. In July 2018 we are running our Holiday Hunger Challenge to raise awareness of the summer holiday hunger that, sadly, many families experience. Head to our campaign page to donate or take part!
