Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Please come to a pamper afternoon: My garden, Saturday 29th July from 2pm, facial's, massage, reflexology......

Anyone who knows me knows my passion for midwifery. Midwifery is a vocation for me and i believe we need a strong midwifery profession to support women to become strong mothers.

Midwifery as a profession has many challenges. As a public service funded by our current government, austerity affects the service we are able to provide due to constant financial pressures. However, midwives and all of the maternity care team work together to try and provide the best service we can for women.

We are also in a culture of maternity care that sees increasing medicalisation of childbirth meaning midwives often work really hard to provide holistic care for women which recognises their psychological, emotional and social needs as well as their physical needs. Midwives support women's  human rights through being their advocate and support physiological birth to ensure women have the best maternity care experience and go forward into motherhood in the best physical and mental health.

To enable midwives to work in these challenging circumstance we need a strong regulating body. However the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has been found on numerous occasions not to be fit for purpose, not enabling regulationary procedures which support midwives to keep women and their babies safe. They also show a huge lack of understanding of the role of the midwife which causes barriers for midwives in carrying out their role

This is one reason why I am a member of the Association of Radical Midwives(ARM). Through joining with other organisations we are campaigning for a new way to regulate midwives which is separate from nursing, has strong midwifery leadership and keeps legislation in place which protects the role of the midwife and thus safeguards childbearing women.

Please support me and the ARM we need a strong midwifery profession to support future generations.
