Story
It's confirmed - I've gone totally mad. Friday 16th April, at midnight I shall walk from South London to Brighton, a distance of 46 miles. We are a group of 50 mad folk from my gym.
I'm dedicating the event to fundraising towards the urgently needed outboard engine, for Orca II, the CRRU's boat, used for whale and dolphin rescue and research work around the waters of the Moray Firth in North East Scotland. I can promise you every penny raised goes directly to their work, none of the staff are salaried. They attend marine mammal rescues 24/7, and are called on for rescue advise internationally. Their research work contributes directly to the protection of this Special Area of Conservation. They just can't do this work without a boat. Website link, and details of their appeal are below.
The walk should take me 15 hours, leaving at midnight and arriving in Brighton during the afternoon of Saturday. Fortunately I don't have to walk back home!
I've set myself a target of less than £10 per mile walked, so please dig deep and give as generously as you are able.
A million thanks in advance,
Beverley

CRRU Engine Appeal
Finally, after six long and dutiful years of service and over 1,000 hours on the clock, Orca II's trusted outboard motor eventually gave-up-the-ghost in September last year. She was subsequently transported to an Evinrude boat mechanic in Edinburgh at the end of the season for a full diagnosis. This sadly revealed extensive water-damage to the engines fuel injectors, the replacement cost of which significantly outweighed the value of the engine itself. Consequently, we now find ourselves in URGENT need of funding for a replacement E-TEC engine at a purchase cost of almost £8,000. Unfortunately, equipment such as engines and vehicles is typically low on the list of funding priorities for most grant awarding bodies, even though it may be essential to our whale and dolphin research and rescue efforts. Therefore we are desperately trying to scrabble together donations, pledges and fundraisers to help us raise these funds before the research season recommences again in May.
