Brian's Story

In December 2011 my husband Brian was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A massive shock to us both. 

He is currently having treatment at Hammersmith Hospital where he is receiving a trial drug and slowly improving.

It was not until he was diagnosed that I realised that the poor survival rate for these patients. 3% survive 5 years. This has not changed in 40 years whilst other cancers have been researched and treatment and cures found. 

The Clarence Dental Practice Team; Gary, Judith, Joanne, Gill, Carol, Sandra and myself are planning to do a half marathon walk on 14th October 2012 to raise funds so that more research can be done to find a way of treating and curing this dreadful disease. 

Before Brian became ill he was a fit and healthy man. The symptoms for pancreatic cancer are vague and it is not until the illness has become advanced that is diagnosed making it very hard to treat. 

I hope that our fund raising will go a little way towards helping research  giving pancreatic patients not only a chance to beat the disease but to be diagnosed earlier.
