BETWEEN MEMORY AND WATER: two friends take
on a journey of 198km, paddling along three classic
Scottish canal routes in support of the RNLI
Spending time on the water is important to so many people, whether on rivers, lochs and canals, on the coast or at sea. Most of the time the adventures and journeys create memories and stories that are remembered fondly.
However, sometimes our time on the water ends in sadness and tragedy when things go wrong and we find ourselves in need of help.
To that end Anna and myself (Paul) have decided to undertake a 198km sponsored journey during 2022 along three classic Scottish canal routes to fundraise for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).
We aim to start with the Crinan Canal (January), the Caledonian Canal (May or June) and the Forth-Clyde/Union Canal (October or November).
We really need your support and encouragement to help raise vital funds for this amazing charity. To find out more about what they do have a look below or visit the RNLI website.
RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, and their seasonal lifeguards look after people on busy beaches. Flood Rescue Teams helps those affected by flooding.
RNLI crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives since 1824 but they’re more than a rescue service. They influence, supervise and educate people too. Community Safety teams explain the risks and share safety knowledge with anyone going out to sea or to the coast. And their international teams work with like-minded organisations to help tackle drowning in communities at risk all around the world.
As a charity independent of government, your generous support of the RNLI matters more than ever in meeting the costs of saving lives at sea. RNLI volunteer lifesavers give their time for free, but they need training, well maintained equipment, lifeboats and shore facilities.
Your kindness saves lives. Every penny raised through our three sponsored events will help keep RNLI volunteers safe on the water and bring them home to their families when the job is done.
