Five University of Bristol alumni, staff and students are running the October 2021 London Marathon in support of Healthy Minds; a student mental health support programme that harnesses the power of exercise.

Story

I've been chosen to run the London Marathon for the University of Bristol's team this year, for the cause of Healthy Minds. Since 2014, the UK higher education sector has seen a 73% rise in students stating that they suffered with conditions such as depression or anxiety before starting their course. Healthy Minds was launched by UoB to support student mental health through physical activity intervention. This includes one-on-one mentoring, encouraging participation in team sports and encouraging students to attend fitness classes.

I don't think that the benefits of exercise and the positive focus that comes alongside physical challenge is emphasised enough, as it can also be a great way to distract from academic stress. Mental health is an incredibly prominent issue amongst the student population at Bristol, and any donations to help overcome this will be massively appreciated!
