Story
My dear friend and ex-colleague, Paul Thomas, always supported my charity activities, and, when I said I'd be walking 1004 km along the Via Francigena in Italy in May, June and July 2020 to raise money for dementia charities, he was one of the first to donate. I wasn't able to start the walk in May, but did the first 115km in August 2020. Sadly, at the end of July 2020, just before I left the UK, for my first stages on the Via, Paul died after a sudden, short illness, and I joined his funeral remotely from Italy.
Paul was a lovely, kind, thoughtful and very amusing man, and he had brilliant palliative care from the City Hospice, so I want to honour his memory by adding this charity to those for which I am raising money. On 2 May 2023 I reached Rome, and, thanks to the generosity of my supporters, have exceeded the target for City Hospice.
