Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi! My name is Beth,

March is Women's history month and it is important to celebrate women worldwide and also help to help those who live in places where it is particularly hard to be a woman.

I am working on raising £1000 for Tearfund, a charity that helps in the poorest countries that helps with people who need it most. The money we raise will help Tearfund to help those who need it.

For example, In Chad, female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C) are rife despite being illegal. But thanks to the House of Hope, girls are becoming aware of their rights and have a place to turn to. Finally, they have a house of hope.

Beth Elphia means ‘House of Hope’. It is run by the local church, SERBAD, and is home to more than 120 girls who have escaped FGM/C.

It provides the girls with shelter and food and pays for their education. But as more and more girls come in, it has become challenging to provide for all their needs. When visiting local villages to raise awareness about the harms of FGM/C, the church’s leaders also often have to ask for donations.

I feel heavily impacted by the stories:
Amira tried fleeing to Beth Elphia, but her parents brought her back to be cut. ‘They in turn, stripped me completely and threw me among other naked girls to wait for our turn'.

Amira found the courage to escape, slipping away as other girls were cut. She ran for more than six miles to the house of the pastor who runs Beth Elphia.
It was 2 am when she arrived. ‘When he opened the door, the pastor was shocked… He called his wife who gave me her clothes.

We pray for the safety of these girls.

There will be various activities taking place over the month of march to fundraise including:

  • Archies and dillon’s 100km run(50km each)
  • roshans 20km run ( 26th march)
  • Beths 10km swim
  • Gabe and Connors 10km swim
  • Macdonald climb to the top of Everest on the stairs
  • along with many other fun activities to be announced ( keep checking the page for updates)
If you are donating towards a particular activity please write it in the notes section when you donate so that the amazing team is able to feel supported and hold themselves accountable!!

we would really appreciate your kind donations towards this cause and help towards smashing our goal by the end of march of £1000

thank you
Beth :)
