Story
Bertie, a guide dog puppy in training was donated by James Middleton to Guide Dog UK. He is raising money to support Bertie through his training to become a Guide Dog and his working life to retirement.
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
“At Guide Dogs we breed most of our own puppies thanks to our world-leading breeding programme, which carefully tracks the health and temperament of our guide dogs over generations. Occasionally we bring in puppies and breeding dogs from outside, either from other guide dog schools around the world or from carefully vetted breeders. This allows us to keep our gene pool more diverse, while safeguarding the core traits and excellent health that make our guide dogs the very best at their role. It also ensures we have enough puppies coming through our training programme to meet demand and partner with blind and partially sighted people. We are grateful to be able to work with breeders, like James, who value high standards and put the happiness and wellbeing of their dogs as the top priority.” - Guide Dogs UK
