Bert's Walk for Wildlife

Walk for Wildlife · 21 July 2019
Hi, I'm Bert. I'm 11 years old and I would love it if you could spare a few moments to read my story.
The British Isles are home to a wonderful variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, crustaceans, and even bivalves. Sadly, there are now 1150 native animals and plants that are now considered "priorities for conservation action". They are declining dramatically in number and are even threatened with extinction.
Creatures such as the much-loved hedgehog have seen a harsh decline in the last 70 years, with numbers plummeting from 36 million to just one million. The pretty small tortoiseshell butterfly, once one of our most common butterfly species, has dropped in number by 77% in just 10 years! Also, although it was once often found across most of the country, today’s V-moth population is thought to be less than 1% of its 1960's levels.
Furthermore, a once familiar sight and a sound often associated with the British summer, the turtle dove, has also declined by a staggering 97% since 1970 and now resides on the Global Red List for Endangered Species.
The list goes on, and with your help I would like to try to make a change. This August I will be walking a 20 mile stretch of the South West Coast path, from Torcross to Hope Cove in an attempt to raise money. Different members of my family will help me along the way.
I would really appreciate it if you could sponsor me on my walk because all money raised will be going to the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, to help preserve our amazing British wildlife.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Any donations, no matter how small, will all help this incredible cause,
