Story
I will be cycling 100 miles on
August 4th
in RideLondon to raise money for Bees for Development (BfD).
800 million people live in poverty across the world and most are dependent on handouts for their survival. This is crazy and I feel compelled to do my bit to help the poor but not through handouts. I absolutely believe in helping people help themselves because it is both dignified and sustainable. BfD help the poor in precisely this way by helping them to make extra money out of beekeeping. They do this by teaching them how to make their own bee hives (typically, from freely available local materials such as reeds and mud), by training them how to keep bees and by connecting them to buyers in distant markets where they get higher prices for their honey & beeswax. Beekeeping does not require land, it requires minimal management time, it is sustainable, it is super beneficial for the environment, it requires little in the way of expensive inputs and most importantly it is an activity open to everyone.
Please help me raise much needed cash for BfD by sponsoring my bike ride.
Thank you very much, Bernie
