Story
In May i was diagnosed with the later stages of small cell lung cancer, and i have been fighting my battle against the disease ever since (undergoing several courses of chemotherapy and awaiting radiotherapy).
Small cell cancer is a rare type of cancer which cannot be cured, but only kept at bay. So far i have responded well to treatment and the cancer has shrunk considerably. With this in mind, it is of great importance to me to remain strong, feel the support of my family and friends, and support other people who are suffering from cancer in their own daily lives.
To express this i have decided to take on an enormous challenge. This coming May (a year since the diagnosis) i will be doing a sponsored walk through the West Highland Way (http://www.west-highland-way.co.uk/home.asp) for Macmillan Cancer support.
The West Highland Way will have me walking through some of Scotland's most beautiful and challenging terrains and wildlife for the duration of 96 miles alongside my Son Joe Roberts, Sister Wilma Jamieson, and dear friend Chris Armstrong. The date is estimated to be around May, but this is pending according to the weather, and could be postponed until June.
Macmillan Cancer support have been absolutely essential for my recovery. Macmillan arranged a home visit, provided me with a much needed grant and sorted out all kinds of paperwork and finance issues for me (quickly and effectively). Money is the last thing you want to worry about when going through an ordeal such as cancer, and if it wasn't for Macmillan i wouldn't have been able to fight as hard as i have due to other stresses and worries. Macmillan are an essential charity for dealing with the other matters besides the actual cancer itself, and they have a very special place in my heart.
Supporting my cause will give me more strength to fight on and will contribute towards what i feel is such an important charity for people that have to deal with the other hardships that are caused from cancer.
