Story
September 2024 will be the 50th Berlin marathon and - all being well - it will be mine too!
I ran my first marathon in 2011 and was hooked by the challenge, the discipline and dedication required, , and the incredible feeling of crossing the line after 26.2 miles. Since then I’ve run a variety of road and trail marathons and ultras across the UK. I’ve enjoyed every one (ok, maybe a couple of exceptions…Wrexham, Bournemouth I’m looking at you) and made some great friends along the way.
Running no.50 at Berlin’s 50th will require quite a few marathons in 2024, made even more challenging by me developing a tendon injury in late 2023 requiring months of rehabilitation.
I want to dedicate this challenge to my mum, Sophie, who I blame for me not being able to sit still (she never could!). Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2019 and her decline has been quick, accelerated following the death of my Dad the following year. It is the most devastating disease, and truly heart-breaking.
