Story
I am joining with several others to undertake the 24 Peaks challenge between 25th-27th April. The challenge entails climbing 24 of the Lake District's Peaks. We will be covering 32 miles over two days (24 hours walking time) and the total height trekked is over 13,000 feet. ...for those who know me well...this will be a challenge and a half!;-)
I am doing this challenge to raise money for Romsey Mill as I work within the YPP (Young Parernts Programme team) as a Young Fathers Worker. The fathers I work with and support are between the ages of 15 and 25. They are often very motivated to be a father and provide for their child/ren but dooften need support in order to navigate their way through the antenatal and postnatal landscape.
My role exists to aid them in preparing for fatherhood and the challenges that this brings as well as assisting with any other issues they may face including: looking for work, housing, addiction, relationships.
The following are quotes from young father's who have benefited from having this service available to them...
‘Thank you for all the [antenatal] lessons, me and my partner feel a lot more comfortable about labour and having a new born! Romsey Mill was really good.’
“I like Romsey Mill. We can come to chat about life, problems and how to solve them. Sometimes we do exercise. I enjoy this as it helps with expressing myself and helps with anger problems. I like to leave Romsey Mill stress free and most of the time I do.”
“I enjoy Romsey Mill because I can be myself and have a laugh but I can also talk serious. They help me with problems and give me advice.”
‘My confidence is a lot better at doing things, I’m more confident around him I know what to do and what not to do. I’m a better person and a better dad than what I was at the start.’
