On Sunday 23rd April 2023 I will be ticking a massive bucket list item off when I run the London Marathon for the first time.
I will be running the race remembering my very best friend Marty Ward who passed away suddenly on 18th December. I will always miss Marty. We ran so many races together. He was supposed to be in London as well having secured a ballot place. It’ll be different without him, but I know he will be cheering me on, every step of the way.
I will be running the race in the RSPCA colours and will be raising money for this phenomenal charity.
I have picked the RSPCA because it is where we rescued Oscar and Rascal from in October 2009. We sadly lost Oscar on 19th August 2022 at the age of 13. He was a special boy who loved it when I got new running shoes and he could sleep in the box. Rascal is still going strong and is up to her usual mischief.
I will be running in Oscar's memory and to celebrate how important animals are to so many people - and to highlight how hard the grief is when you have to say goodbye. I won't ever forget that moment. They become part of your life and of your family and these two cats have been so important for my mental health over the last few years in the same way running has.
Thank you for your support and helping me raise money for this important charity by taking on the run of my lifetime. Marty was all about running with a smile and encouraging people. I won’t ever forget him.
