Story
On October 20th, starting at 6am, myself and a group of like-minded people will be walking across a series of London's iconic bridges carrying a few of our treasured possessions and essentials, just as many refugees have had to do as they flee violence around the world. We're doing this in order to raise funds for E123 Welcomes Refugees, but also awareness around the continued plight of refugees, as well as to get to know better some of the people in our local community who also have a heart for refugees. If you'd like to join us, we'd love to have you there! Please visit the E123 Welcomes Refugees main page and you can make your own fundraising page like this!
PLEASE NOTE! - the 20th October is Hayley Still's due date! As such, it may be that I can't carry out the walk on the date planned. HOWEVER, I promise if this is the case that i will find an alternative date and do it on my lonesome! :)
E123 Welcomes Refugees Story - We are a community group in Tower Hamlets East London working to resettle a refugee family in our community, supporting them to be welcomed and settle into the community. We are able to do this under the Community Sponsorship scheme that gives power to local volunteer groups to resettle a refugee family in their neighbourhood. It is a big commitment, but we feel that we must help in what is being called the biggest humanitarian and refugee crisis of our time. This crisis, that has displaced over 5 million people, can seem so big that we feel power less but that is not the case. You can help a refugee family by donating to our group or becoming a fundraiser for this campaign. We need to raise £12,000 to cover various costs like translation, furnishing the house and English classes. We also need to Find and furnish an affordable home for a refugee family for a period of 2 years, welcome the family at the airport and settle them in their new community.
