National 3 Peak Challenge · 24 June 2021
On Thursday 24th June 2021, 7 colleagues and I will embark upon the National Three Peak Challenge - 23 miles, 10,000ft total ascent, over the UK’s highest 3 peaks - Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales). This will be completed in under 24 hours, including the time it takes to travel between the peaks.
Having lost my father, grandmother and sister-in-law to cancer in a period of just 5 years, I could not be more motivated to lead a team to take on a challenge to help raise vital funds for such a critical cause.
Year after year everyone is effected in some way by cancer. Whether it be personally, through a family member, a colleague or a friend. There are 363,000 new cases in the UK every year, with still only a 50% survival rate. Having spent very many hours caring for loved ones who now sit the wrong side of this statistic, I believe that no one in this modern world should have to suffer such a cruel, humiliating and painful illness.
Therefore, my determined teammates and I are proud to be taking on this challenge and representing Cancer Research UK. Training has already begun with many miles on steep mountain paths now covered in preparation for what's to come. Transport and accommodation is booked, kit and clothing purchased and we are raring to go!
We will keep you updated as we approach the event and especially around our biggest training session which is to complete the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge in under 10 hours - 24.5 mile walk, over 3 peaks, climbing 5,000ft in total.
Please give generously and wish us luck for the big day. We are hoping for favourable weather conditions and good traffic between the climbs. Should you have any questions on the challenge, then don’t hesitate to contact me personally on: ben.hirst@horizonplatforms.co.uk.
Very many thanks in advance,
Ben Hirst
