Fundraising for Whizz Kidz
Story
I have decided to run the 2016 London Marathon for Whizz-Kidz.
Sometimes life makes things a little more complicated for some children than they should be. If you are born with a disability there is no reason you should not have all the same opportunities as your friends. You should be able to attend school, participate fully in all life has to offer and have access to work.
Whizz-Kidz helps children in a number of ways:
- Wheelchairs: The NHS is unable to provide modern wheelchairs and other equipment to disabled children. Whizz-Kidz currently has over 800 children on its waiting list for a wheelchair. With the correct equipment, a disabled child can have meaningful independence. Each wheelchair costs over £4,000. Your kind donations mean more wheelchairs - it's that simple!
- Family support: Whizz-Kidz provides vital support to disabled children and their families. Whizz-Kidz set up the first national network to created to support families of young wheelchair users.
- Giving confidence and facilitating access: Whizz-Kidz runs youth groups, wheelchair skills training, work placements and residential camps for young wheelchair users.
I have met some beneficiaries of Whizz-Kidz's support - their stories are inspirational. What is most striking and totally shocking is that the equipment and support that Whizz-Kidz provides is not available as a matter of course in the UK.
