Story
During this period of Covid-19, and with most of us being in lockdown, we've seen viral videos of nature thriving and the levels of air pollution taking a dip. What is the likelihood of those things remaining constant after this time passes though? Unfortunately, if things return to what we considered to be 'normal', we will end up reversing all the good that has been done.
I have been vegan since last September and have completely changed the way I think about our planet as a result. Now is the time to step that up... Charities such as Whale and Dolphin Conservation, who are doing such great work, need our help in this time and I want to do my bit.
I want to continue to raise awareness around how the way we treat our planet can have many negative effects on our future. I want to create a culture that helps people think about the simple changes they could make. I want us to take positive action.
The amount we need to achieve as a planet in order to take care of the crisis we are in is tremendous. So going back to that culture I wish to create, let's make that stick. We can't afford to go back to 'normal' because that wasn't working. We need to make changes. It can be as simple as re-using plastic bags, not buying bottled water, picking up litter when you're out for a walk (or ideally not littering in the first place!), walking or cycling to work, reducing the amount of meat you eat, or fundraising for/donating to the charities and organisations who are making great strides towards a better planet and future for all of us.
Whilst I am raising money for WDC, I'm doing this with a wider vision, and will be raising awareness of other organisations along the way. And I hope you will join me on this journey - I'll be active on social media to make that side easy. The WDC 2.6 challenge is all about focusing on the 2.6/26 so I've set myself the challenge of running 26km in 26 days. 10km a day for 26 days straight. I'm looking forward to the challenge and I won't just be taking it lightly, I'm looking to set pb times for myself and push my limits.
If you are able to, please help support this cause with a small donation of £2.60. Other amounts (no matter how big or small) are of course all received with the same gratitude but £2.60 keeps to the theme of the challenge whilst not breaking the bank! All those coffees you've not been able to buy recently... Why not put a fraction of that towards our planet and our future? I will be starting this challenge on June 15th and finishing on July 10th but I'd love to raise as much money as possible before that first run - just as some extra motivation!
So for every £1 raised prior to June 15th, I'll be donating an additional 26p, up to a limit of the target of £260. Together, let's smash that target and keep going. I'll do the running, you do the giving :)
Save the UK's CharitiesGeneral fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. Please, let's do what we can to help.
