Story
I’m really excited to have the opportunity to travel to Uganda this summer and take part in Play Action International’s project. I will be a part of a team of volunteers who will be heading out to Uganda to assist with transforming an empty field at a local school into a playground bursting with colour and fun, leaving a legacy for children to learn and develop essential life skills and nurture their physical, psychological and social development through the language they know best - Play!
To help the local community, I need to fundraise £1,750, which will go directly towards the materials and services needed to build the playground. Not only will we build a long-lasting playground, but the charity trains and employs local workers. Play Action International currently has 4 British and around 70-80 Ugandan employees, showing the focus on permanently hiring locals where possible. Whilst we will be doing the unskilled labour, digging, painting etc, the local staff will be working on the skilled specialist roles, to ensure no jobs are taken during the volunteering.
Play Action have seen a huge 98% increase in school enrolment after playgrounds have been built! This project will have an important impact, enhancing the health, education and development of children in the local area. It aims to help them achieve employment and better their lives.
Thank you for helping me with this project, I’ll keep you up to date with the progress!
