Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Myself and family members from a wide age-range (6-80yrs) are to be doing a 10k charity walk across the South downs in memory of my cousin, Paul. He died abruptly in Sept last year from Pancreatic Cancer, leaving behind his wife Kathy and two sons.
His passing, not only highlighted to me how fragile life is and how important families are (no matter how distant) but also of Pancreatic Cancer itself, how common it is and how little seems to be known about it.
Pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death and has the highest death rate of all. There is no early detection and treatment is limited. Because symptoms are initially vague and generally don't appear until the disease is well advanced, the average survival time after diagnosis is 6 months. Despite this, research is underfunded compared with other types of cancer. We are all aiming to raise what we can to help research into Pancreatic Cancer…. So that other sufferers and their families may well have a fighting chance of survival of this little understood cancer. Something my cousin Paul did not have.
