Story
You're probably here because I've asked you for money, so firstly, thanks for reading - I know lots of people are worried about money right now.
Who I'm running for
Im 2020 my fiancée Emma was diagnosed with cancer. We felt first-hand how COVID heaped more fear and uncertainty onto an already terrifying situation.
With health services still under huge pressure, it doesn't feel like things are going to get significantly better any time soon.
So services like Macmillan are absolutely vital. They ease the burden for people living with cancer and their families, and that little bit of help can feel like a lifeline.
For some people a cancer diagnosis is a financial catastrophe too. With the cost of living crisis about to deepen, it's worth knowing that Macmillan also provide financial advice and grants for people with low incomes who are affected by cancer.
So if you feel you're able to give anything, it will be massively appreciated – and more importantly help people who really need it.
A bit about the running (if you're interested in that kinda thing)
I somehow managed to get a place on the London Marathon ballot in 2021, but deferred it as Emma was recovering and it didn't feel like the right time.
My attempts at long distance running have tended to follow this pattern:
Start running > get into it a bit > run too hard > hurt my back > lie on the sofa for a couple of days > stop running.
But this time I've taken the training slow and so far everything is going well (touch wood, sign of the cross, etc).
I'm doing the 'Big Half' half marathon on September 4, which will hopefully give me a better sense of what pace is realistic come the London marathon on October 2, so I'll post an update here.
