Story
THE RACE
In September this year I will travel to Kenya along with 69 others, to participate in a 230km self-sufficient multi-day stage race through the foot hills of Mount Kenya.
Running at an average of 46km per day and fluctuating between 1500m and 2000m above sea level, the self-sufficient part of the race means we will have to carry on our backs all the food, bedding and medical supplies we need for the entire 5 days.
However, we will be under the watchful eye of the local rangers and the highly skilled teams of Beyond the Ultimate and Exile Medics, keeping us safe every step of the way.
THE CAUSE
The recent demand for rhino horn and the resulting resurgence in poaching has reached catastrophic levels. Poaching in Africa has been well documented, with over 100 rhino killed annually plus the situation for the elephant is far worse, with some estimates suggesting that a 100 elephants every day are being slaughtered across Africa.
The Rangers - Trusted boots on the ground are most important in protecting wildlife and combating poaching. These men and women are risking their lives to save these two iconic species of the African continent and indeed the World. So through this challenge we aim to raise funds to ensure that all rangers are adequately equipped with good-quality equipment, training and general welfare.
Any donations or sponsorship would be extremely welcome. Remember a pair of boots and a decent pair of socks alone, could change the life of a Ranger who has to walk miles and miles daily through rough and inhospitable terrain.
VIPPS - Norwegians can also Vipps to 905 06 871 and add ForRangers as a trnsfer note.
