Story
Over the next two years Lloyds Banking Group is aiming to raise £4 million for Mental Health UK, an organisation made up of 4 charities: Rethink Mental Illness, Support in Mind Scotland, Hafal Wales and MindWise Northern Ireland. Hopefully, the Fourtitude Challenge will make a contribution towards this, for every £1.00 that I raise, Lloyds will match meaning that actual amount donated will be double what I raise. This is a really important issue to me as I used to be the Treasurer for Student Minds whilst at University and ran the Great North Run with my girlfriend Gabriela raising £300.00 for Mind.
In the UK alone statistics show 1 in 4 people are directly affected by mental illness and unfortunately at least 4 million of those will struggle with their finances. Mental Health UK wants to create the first ever Mental Health and Money Advice Service to offer practical, personal guidance and information for anyone concerned about their finances as a result of mental illness, or vice versa. This is undoubtedly a service that needs to be created and Lloyds are offering to practical support to make it sustainable as well as matching all money raised.
The Fourtitude Challenge takes place over four days (4th-7th September) and consists of four challenges:
Day 1 – testing your ‘mental agility’
Day 2 – scale the highest mountain in the country (for me Scaffold Pike)
Day 3 – 100 mile cycle in the Peak District
Day 4 – Half marathon in Birmingham
As you can see it's pretty physically demanding and we have been set an ambitious target to raise £2500. I will be carrying out several events over the next few months to help me meet my target so keep your eyes peeled for updates!
