Story

We are an independent local foodbank in Hornsey, which opens once a week to give food to local residents in need. We do not operate a voucher system, anybody who feels they need it can use our service. We try to offer fresh as well as non-perishable food where we can. Over the summer we have been located in Campsbourne School, and from September we will be located in Middle Lane Methodist Church. We grew out of Hornsey Mutual Aid, a group of local residents set up to help people in need during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We noticed a high degree of food poverty, and no foodbanks operate in the Hornsey area, so we got together to start this foodbank. All proceeds will go towards supporting the food bank. We are a very new venture, and while we work towards setting up our own structures, Hornsey Parochial Charities are kindly holding our money for us.

About the charity

Hornsey Parochial Charities was set up in 1620 for “the maintenance of eight poor men of the Parish of Hornsey” Today, we continue to assist anyone with need who resides within the old parish boundary of Hornsey to alleviate the effects of poverty and promote educational and economic achievement. We do this through the provision of grants in 3 areas: 1) Personal grants To residents in need to help with essential items such as clothing, bedding for the cost of heating and lighting. 2) Educational grants To young people under the age of 25 years to assist with education expenses or to prepare for a career, profession or further education. 3) Local organisation grants To charitable organisations who provide homes or services for the elderly, infirm, homeless or other organisations providing services to the local community, including the provision of grants to schools, community and youth organisations.
