Story
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is once in a generation moment to catalyse change. A chance to start something that will endure long after the closing ceremony and make a long-lasting difference for thousands of people. In every street, village, town, and city it’s our chance to unite, to celebrate collective diversity, hope and community.
To ensure the Games make a tangible difference United by 2022 Legacy Charity are building a community fund that will maximise the legacy of the Games.
United By 2022 will ensure that legacy doesn’t stop when the Games does. It is the post-Games legacy vehicle for Birmingham 2022, allowing us to carry forward the Games for Everyone spirit, taking legacy into the places that need it most.
With your help, United By 2022 can reach those that are socially excluded - reaching the most disadvantaged communities by supporting projects that are…
- Community led, enabling communities to put their ideas into action and work to solve the challenges on their doorstep.
- Keep the Games for Everyone vision alive and promote fairness and social inclusion.
- Ensure venues and other games assets are turned into well used and well-loved community spaces after the Games.
United By 2022 has so far identified three projects to fund and that are indicative of projects the charity would like to support.
SWIMMING FOR EVERYONE
More than 2 million children in England missed out on learning to swim as a result of the pandemic. Some of them might never learn, leaving them without an essential life-saving skill and joining an already too high number of older children and adults who can’t swim.
Your contribution to the United by 2022 community fund could help pay for swimming and water safety lessons. £15 pays for one lesson and 10 lessons could help someone to obtain their 25-metre badge.
YOUTH SOCIAL ACTION PROGRAMMES
Help United by 2022 make 2022 a turning point for young people who have been hardest hit by the pandemic. 2022 will be an unforgettable year of celebration and the Games will touch the lives of a million young people.
Your contribution to the community fund will help to make the moment last. Every contribution matters - £15 could help to match a young disabled person with Games-related work experience. £50 could provide a mentor for a year.
Help launch positive futures for Generation 2022.
ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUNDS
Birmingham and the West Midlands doesn’t have enough provision of accessible play spaces. Inclusive play spaces allow children to connect with others in a positive way, relieve feelings of stress, stimulate creative thinking and exploration, boost confidence and enable children to enjoy the pleasure and benefits of play.
Your contribution could help us towards the £50,000 needed to create an inclusive and accessible play space that will allow everyone to play together.
Every contribution, large or small, can make a difference.
ONE GAMES FOR EVERYONE. THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUAL LEGACIES.
