I’m running the Manchester 10k for the eight time, and will be running the race in memory of Richard.
Richard died of Motor Neurone Disease in 2018 after being diagnosed in 2015, and one of the cruellest things about the disease was how it took his speech. Richard was a very popular Modern Foreign Languages teacher at Highfields School in Matlock, and hadn’t been retired for long before the first symptoms appeared.
Throughout Richard’s journey we’ve been inspired as a family by the MNDA community, and have been grateful for all the encouragement and support received. It’s also been heartening to see the massive impact that the likes of Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield have had on raising money and more awareness for the MND cause.
I hope one day soon we can find a cure for this cruel disease. Every penny raised for MNDA goes a long way to making a big difference.
