Story
Hello and welcome to my donations page.
I will be walking 7 miles around Rutland water to help raise awareness and money for NACC. The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (NACC) brings together people of all ages who have Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. These two illnesses are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and they affect about 1 in 250 people in the United Kingdom.
As you may know I have suffered with Crohn’s for some years now. I have been on many different medications but it is a constant battle to keep the disease under control and the symptoms at bay. As medication has so far failed to keep my Crohn’s in remission, my consultant is currently reviewing whether surgery would be of benefit to me.
NACC has helped me understand my illness as well as put me in touch with other sufferers. Being able to talk to somebody who has suffered in a similar way helps you to realise it is not all bad and there can be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Crohn’s Disease is not curable but it can be manageable with medication and diet. Finding a balance between quality of life, diet and medication can be difficult and can take years of experimenting. Most people diagnosed with and IBD require surgery at some point in their life.
As well as providing much needed support to newly diagnosed and long term sufferers of IBD, NACC helps fund a lot of research into finding a cure for Colitis and Crohn’s. The money we raise will be used to keep NACC running as well as funding research into better medication and hopefully one day a cure.
Please please help me reach my total of £300. This would be a great personal achievement as well as a great help to many other sufferers. Walking 7 miles is a massive challenge, having to cope with strong bowel pains and also the constant need to find a loo.
