Story

I’m embarking on my biggest challenge yet. I am running two marathons, in two continents in two different, months.

The first one is in York in October and the second one is in New York in November. I originally signed up for this in 2018, but the pandemic got in the way of all my plans. Now I’m three years older, and carrying a lot more injuries.

I’m doing this challenge to raise money for OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity, a charity that was set up in 2014 by my friends Marie and Ian after their son Oscar died of a brain tumour.

Sadly, since Oscar died, Marie's husband Ian, and youngest son Milo have also died of different types of brain tumours.

Ian and I did a fair few charity challenges together and if he was still here, he’d be telling me that I’m insane to try and run two marathons in such a short time. Secretly he would also be very proud that I am doing it for the charity that he and Marie set up.

The work that OSCAR’s fund is so important to the children and their families that are going through treatment and recovery from a brain tumour. If you want to know more, Marie writes a regular blog about the impact brain tumours have had on their family - https://www.oscarspbtc.org/category/blog/

About the charity

OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.
