Story

Support Congenital
Hyperinsulinism research!

Fundraise using your
strengths and abilities!

I’m on the Raring to go for CHI Team to raise funds for congenital hyperinsulinism (HI) research leading to new treatments, better diagnosis, and an improved quality of life.

I cannot ride in the Million Dollar Bike Ride because of motor coordination and visual impairment.

That isn’t stopping me from fundraising and joining the team.  I’M IN!!!!  Are you?  I hope you will support this cause. Every little bit counts.  Small donations are just as welcome as large.  Some of you may even want to start your own fundraising page on Just Giving.  I really want to encourage others who may be neurodiverse like me to join in the fundraising.  Let’s show the community we have a lot to contribute and can fundraise our way.

Here’s some more background:

Congenital hyperinsulinism (HI, for short) is a rare disease of the human endocrine system. This condition causes severe low blood sugar. HI, in addition to being classified as a condition of the endocrine system, can become a condition of the brain and nervous system if a person with HI, especially a newborn baby, is deprived of glucose for a prolonged period.

My motor coordination, spatial awareness, vision, visual and depth perception, ability to dual task between visual and motor tasks, completion of some fine motor tasks, ability to play sports and do other physical leisure activities,  were affected by HI. Areas of strength, however, include interpersonal skills, executive functions, ability to write, ability to be on my feet for a long time.

Throughout the month of June, I will be WALKING FOR RESEARCH. I will be walking a minimum of 7,000 steps a day, on average, TAKING GIANTS FOR RESEARCH.

Join us in raising research funds for new treatments for congenital hyperinsulinism (HI). HI is a life-threatening disorder that causes dangerously low blood sugar levels. Prolonged or severe low blood sugar can cause seizures, brain damage, and even death. New Treatments are needed! Your fundraising dollars will be used for an innovative, pre-clinical or clinical study designed to improve the diagnosis, therapy, or quality of life for those affected by congenital hyperinsulinism. The first $30,000 we raise is matched by the University of Pennsylvania, our partner in funding research. Thanks to all of you, CHI has raised over $381,000 for congenital hyperinsulinism research.
