Story
Above is a photo of my fabulous, formidable and fierce Nana who was sadly taken from us aged 91. She was fortunate, in a way, that she had a relatively short battle with Dementia - 7 years - although it seemed a lot longer than that to my mother, aunts and the people who cared for her.
Dementia, in all its guises, is a truly sinister and malicious disease. It is a terminal illness but before that, in the vast majority of cases, it will take away a person’s two most prized facets, their memory and their dignity.
There are 209,600 new cases of dementia in the UK each year. Worldwide, around 50 million people are currently estimated to have dementia and there are 10 million new cases each year.
These numbers continue to escalate and there are considered to be hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions who are suffering or have suffered from the disease, but have failed to be properly diagnosed.
In short, it is one of the most malignant diseases and nobody is immune from it.
So please give as generously as you can to help fund the research that will hopefully find a cure in the near future.
Thank you
Ben
