Story

We lost our baby daughter Maisie just before she reached six months. Despite being by far the most challenging six months of mine and our families' lives, having her with us, however fleeting, were by far the best.

She fought so very hard to give us time together as a family. I will forever be so very proud of her for the fight and strength she showed.

Maisie showed us what was important in life and how we must always appreciate every hour of every day.

As a family we are determined to keep Maisie's memory alive and continue to spread the love she brought into the world.

I never ran before we lost Maisie, but the training runs, park runs, 10Ks and half marathons have all been little challenges I have been setting myself: providing something to focus on and time to be alone and think.

I will be doing my upmost in the coming months to ensure I line up on the start line with the best possible chance of finishing the marathon in a respectable time! I have two half marathons, a fifteen and twenty mile event lined up, so hopefully I stay reasonably injury free!

So this marathon is for you Maisie for all the things you never had the time or opportunity to do, which so many of us take for granted. You are forever my inspiration XXX

10 million people in the UK suffer from diseases in which mitochondrial dysfunction is believed to be involved, while every day in the UK a baby is born who will develop mitochondrial disease. The disease is debilitating, there is no cure and lives are cut far too short. The Lily Foundation's ultimate aim is to one day find a cure for mito. As the UK's leading charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease, our mission is to support people whose lives are affected by the condition, raise awareness and fund research into its prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Please support my London 2020 challenge and together we will make a difference.
