Story
On the 15 September 2012 at the London Docklands, 7 others and I will row the 21 miles of the Great River Race on the river Thames, in what is described as London’s river marathon. We aim to complete it in less than 3 hours, in an 8 oared boat 25 foot in length
On May 21 last year my mother, Sian Hurd died in New York City at the age of 46. She was an amazing person with a passion for charity work. In her time in New York she gave huge support to the charity Women for Women International, a charity which aids, cares for, and supports women suffering the horrors of violence in conflict areas, particularly the women of Africa, the Balkans, the Middle East and South Asia. Their programmes will equip them with the tools and resources necessary to move beyond crisis and poverty and build confidence and self sufficiency.More information can be found at http://www.womenforwomen.org/.
In remembrance of my mum we have decided to aid this cause through completing the Great River Race.
We will launch from the London Docklands and continue to travel the course of the Thames, passing Canary Wharf, under Tower Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Lambeth Bridge, past the Houses of Parliament, Battersea Bridge, Wandsworth Bridge, Putney Bridge, Hammersmith Bridge, Chiswick Bridge, Kew Bridge, Richmond Bridge and finishing at the riverside below Ham house, Richmond. For more information on the race visit http://www.greatriverrace.co.uk/index.php.
If you are able please sponsor us as we row the Great River Race in aid of this amazing cause. Even small donations will make a difference.
